THE FOREST GUARDIANS
How Elephants create Forests !
This is the African Savanna elephant, the largest land animal that still exist on earth. But here’s the catch, most number of trees, small animals, and mini ponds, out of nowhere, or in simple words, most number of forests in the world exists because of them. And we will go through it’s how. By their name itself, they are mostly found in Africa continent in Savannah region. They are twice taller than an average Human. Weighing more than 5 tons. Elephants are absolute majestic creatures. They require around 300 pounds of food and 225 litres of water on daily basis to survive. Elephants are also one of the most intelligent species on earth, they can recognise themselves in the mirror, same as humans, few apes, dolphins, and Magpies can do. Their skeleton is a huge mass of bones which also includes their tusks. One of the interesting reason of why elephants can’t jump is because, they only stand and walk on their toes, and the rest is muscle mass. One of their most unique part of their body is their trunk, which can also be seen in few other animals. Up to 300,000 Asian elephants once roamed uninterrupted landscapes in lush forests, but only 30,000 still, forced to share exhausted resources, sandwiched between wildlife and the growing mass of humankind. Studies have shown that elephants protect the forest health in Central Africa by distributing seeds from trees. One of the reasons why elephants are so important to forest ecosystems is that unlike many other species, they are able to spread seeds from the family tree. In Central Africa, where there are dozens of fruit trees, the seeds are large enough to pass through the bowels of other animals in the forest, making elephants the only breeders. African elephants trample forests and dense grassland to make room for smaller species to live together. Elephants are found in a variety of ecosystems, including savannahs, grasslands, forests, deserts, swamps and mountains. They have proven to be effective priority species for conservation planning because their habitats are correlated with other large mammal species of interest to nature conservation. Elephants dig dry waterbeds for water holes in dry season, which not only benefit them, but also to other animals living around.
